How It Works
Getting care at home can feel overwhelming, especially when Medicaid, caregiver approval, and program rules are involved. We help families understand the process and take the next step at their own pace.
From First Call to Care at Home
Here's what to expect when you reach out.
1
Contact Selected Care
Tell us a little about your situation. You can complete a quick screening or give us a call. We'll listen, learn what's going on, and help you understand whether we may be able to help.
2
We Review Possible Options Together
Together, we look at the care paths that may make sense for your loved one. This could include support for a family member or friend to become a paid caregiver, agency-supported care, or another option through the Michigan Home Help program.
3
Eligibility and Care Needs Are Reviewed
The state, your loved one's health plan, or another reviewer will assess covered services, caregiver approval, and care hours. We help families prepare for this step and answer questions along the way.
4
Caregiver Steps Are Completed
If a family member or friend may qualify as a paid caregiver, we walk through the required steps — background checks, training, paperwork, and enrollment. We work with you so nothing falls through the cracks.
5
Services Begin After Approval
Once approvals are in place, care begins according to the approved care plan. We continue to support families with questions and changes over time
We Move Quickly on Our End
Waiting on home care is hard. We respond quickly to calls and forms, prepare paperwork carefully so it doesn't get sent back for fixes, and keep families informed at every step. State approvals and program decisions happen on the state's timeline — but you'll never be waiting on us.
What to Keep in Mind
Every family's situation is different. Some families complete the process in a few weeks; more complex situations may take longer. We help you understand what to expect at each step.
Eligibility, caregiver approval, covered services, and care hours are determined by program rules and individual approval, not by Selected Care.
We make the process clearer, but we don't guarantee approval, payment, or service hours.
